[ Introduction ]

Today we are checking out the latest product from Arctic-Cooling known as the Accelero Twin Turbo, which is another high-performance yet affordable VGA cooler. This new cooler has been designed to work with the latest Radeon HD 4870 and 4850 graphics cards, though it will work with a wide range of Nvidia based products as well…

When it comes to VGA cooling Arctic-Cooling are experts, as they have been developing some of the industry’s finest products for years now. Their latest product range, the Accelero family, has continued to grow since being first introduced almost 3 years ago now. The Accelero X1/X2 has remained one of our favorite VGA cooler upgrades, while the S1/S2 version was also impressive.

Then along came the monstrous Accelero Xtreme coolers, which were by far the best air-cooled options for Radeon HD 2900XT and GeForce 8800 Ultra/GTX/GTS users. Now we have the new Accelero Twin Turbo, the latest member of the Arctic-Cooling Accelero family. While this may sound and even look much like a new product, it is in fact a modified version of the original Accelero S1/S2 coolers.

In fact, Arctic-Cooling has already upgraded the Accelero S1, releasing a second revision which greatly improved compatibility. Although this second revision remained passively cooled without the optional “Turbo Module” upgrade, it supported a wider range of graphics cards, including the new GeForce 9800 GTX+ and Radeon HD 4850/4870.

The Accelero S1 Rev.2 was quite a large heatsink, measuring 21.5cm long, 13.8cm wide, and 3.3cm thick. Interestingly the new Accelero Twin Turbo version is more compact in terms of width, though because this version does utilize two fans, it is a dual slot design. Now because the Accelero Twin Turbo features the same base as the Accelero S1 Rev.2, the compatibility list remains the same.

This means that the Accelero Twin Turbo is also compatible with the GeForce 9800GTX+, 9800GTX, 9800GT, and 9600GT graphics cards, along with the Radeon HD 4870/4850. It is expected that the Accelero Twin Turbo will deliver a similar level of performance to that of the Accelero S1 Rev.2 with the Turbo Module, as both feature dual 80mm fans. However, because the Accelero Twin Turbo does feature a fan shroud, it should be able to better direct the air-flow over the heatsink.
