[ Introduction ]

Today we are taking a look at the most powerful 4-bay NAS we have ever seen. Built using the Intel Core i3-4330 processor and C226 platform controller hub, the Asustor AS7004T takes it to the competition. Designed for both multi-media and business applications the AS7004T can handle whatever you have in store...

The Asustor product family has continued to grow as the company has added a number of new products recently, most of which have been high-end models.

The AS500xT series for example which is designed for power users, sports an Intel Celeron dual-core processor clocked at 2.41GHz with 1GB of memory. Those willing to spend a little extra have the AS510xT series which features a quad-core Celeron processor and twice as much memory.

Those seeking even more power will be interested in the AS700xT series, which brings a powerful Intel Core i3 processor and 2GB of RAM. The series comprises of a 10-bay, 8-bay and surprisingly a smaller more affordable 4-bay model. I don’t recall the last time we saw a 4-bay NAS that was powered by a true desktop processor.

This makes the Asustor AS7004T very interesting. Whereas the AS7008T costs $1800 and the AS7010T a whopping $2150, the AS7004T is an easier to handle $1130. Obviously that is still a lot of money for a 4-bay NAS.

The new Synology DS415+ costs just $600, though it is powered by a quad-core Atom SoC. The only competitor the AS7004T has right now is the eerily similar QNAP TS-470 Pro. The TS-470 Pro is powered by the Core i3-3220 whereas the AS7004T is armed with the newer and more powerful Core i3-4330. Despite the lower-spec hardware the TS-470 Pro comes at a higher asking price of $1330.

Asustor does have some nice products now but I hope the next gen design looks more modern.
