Today we are taking a look at the new Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2, a compact portable Bluetooth speaker that’s a real powerhouse! Based on a similar, yet improved design to the original, the Roar 2 promises to be lighter and more compact while still delivering the same room-filling audio and eight hour run time… Since the uprise of the smartphone portable Bluetooth speakers have become all the rage and consumers virtually have countless options, ranging from $10 all the way up to $400 for something like the Braven 855s. With so many options on offer, creating a portable speaker that stands out from the pack is no easy task and yet this is exactly what Creative managed to achieve back in February of 2014 after releasing the Sound Blaster Roar.
![]() The Roar was extremely well received and to this day is one of the most popular high-end portable speakers on the market. There is well over 1000 user reviews on Amazon and most of them are very positive. It took a little over a year before Creative were ready to unveil the successor, the Roar 2. Having set the bar so high with the original Roar it took Creative's design team several months to achieve the goals that would make the Roar 2 a reality. Regardless of how well received a product is, users will always find something that they would like to see improved. High on the wish list for most Roar owners was a lighter and more compact design, as well as another color option other than just black/silver. Creative has delivered, as the Roar 2 is 20% smaller and 10% lighter without compromising the audio quality. The Roar 2 also comes in either black or white, and features what we feel is a much more attractive design. Whereas the original Roar featured a $200 MSRP, the Roar 2 is slightly pricier with a $230 MSRP. That said, keep in mind that the Roar was always available for well under $200 and can currently be had for $130, and that price isn’t due to the arrival of the Roar 2 as both products will continue to sell side by side. Furthermore, the Roar 2 can already be had online for $170, and while that might sound like a lot, for a portable speaker of this caliber it really isn’t. |
