[ Introduction ]

Today we are taking a look at Gigabyte’s version of the Radeon R9 280X which comes equipped with their Windforce X3 cooler and is part of their “Ultra Durable VGA” series. Gigabyte has also performed some factory overclocking which should make their R9 280X faster than a Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition...

Earlier this week AMD released the Radeon R9 290, a cut-down version of last month’s R9 290X. The original R9 290X provided gamers with Titan-like performance for half the cost at $550. It was a beast of a card but even at the heavily discounted price of $550 when compared to the $1000 Titan, it was hard to justify spending 70% more on the R9 290X over the R9 280X to receive just 30% more performance.

AMD did the unexpected with the R9 290 when they announced the MSRP of just $400, 30% more than the R9 280X. This put the R9 290 and R9 280X on an even playing field in terms of price vs. performance.

For those who cannot afford the $400 required to obtain the Radeon R9 290 the R9 280X presents itself as a more affordable option at $300. There are a number of good options to choose from when looking at an R9 280X graphics card and today’s review is based on one of the better examples.

The Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X, product code “GV-R928XOC-3GD”, costs just $300 despite offering a number of upgrades. For starters we believe this Gigabyte version is the most heavily factory overclocked R9 280X out there, boasting a boost clock of 1.1GHz. Gigabyte has likely been able to push their card so hard thanks to their WindForce 3X cooler with Triangle Cool technology. With that in mind let’s move on to check the card out in greater detail...

BF4 just came out, obviously they are still updating all their data. If you want to know how the 280X performs just read this review. I suspect the Gigabyte 280X review was written first so didn't have the latest data.

Yep you have spotted a typo, or more a copy and paste error. Thank you for pointing it out so politely. My original results with a full rundown of cards can be found here...
