[ Introduction ]

Today we have two more entries in the wireless storage device arena released in July, being the 32GB versions of both the SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive, and Flash Drive. These look to be two feature packed ‘minis’ of the recently reviewed Portable 2.5” battery-powered hard drives, so let’s see how they stack up...

A year ago not many people in the tech industry had seen too many wireless portable hard drives, now more and more companies are running with the idea and releasing their own spin on it. SanDisk has taken the portability idea to the extreme with these two units and created something that basically anyone could find quite handy – from the savvy business type to keeping the kids amused on long trips, or even just chilling at home with friends.

Built-in storage for tablets, smartphones and laptops can be very limiting - and if you are looking for more than only 16GB storage it can be downright expensive. Upgrading from standard tablet models with 16GB to 64GB or even 128GB can add $300+. While both of these units only house 32GB from the box, the fantastic part of these is you can add in and swap additional cards till your heart’s content. The ‘Media Drive’ version can take full size SD cards, while the ‘Flash Drive’ version can only accept the Micro-SD card – still an impressive feat by SanDisk.

While we were very impressed by the size of the 500GB and 1TB ‘big brother’ external wireless HDD’s by Corsair and Patriot, SanDisk have come out of the corner swinging with these two miniature wireless units that pack nearly the same features as the full size external drives, just obviously not the entire storage capacity. Interestingly, both claim to have excellent battery life and support streaming to multiple devices, across PC / MAC iOS and Android phones and tablets.
