Today we are checking out the first and thus far only addition to Silverstone’s new Mammoth professional chassis series. Designed for harsh or critical environments, the Mammoth MM01 features a HEPA filter making it dust proof, while unique ventilation means it is also spill-proof... The least complex component of any computer is the box it’s built in. That said the computer case has evolved significantly from the beige box of yesteryear. Each year we see new and innovative designs that have helped to improve cooling performance, reduce operating volume, significantly reduce dust build-up and crucially fit more gear inside. A big driving force behind case innovation has been Silverstone who has literally flipped the world of computer cases on its head. Recently we have seen their Fortress series take thermal performance to the next level, while the Sugo series do the seemingly impossible by fitting extreme hardware into extremely small cases. ![]() For those of you who follow CES announcements closely and have an excellent memory, you might recall a Silverstone prototype case from CES 2013 which was appropriately-named ‘Mammoth’. The prototype of the time was very rough, though it hinted at a massive EATX chassis which was said to be completely ‘dust-proof’ and more intriguingly ‘spill-proof’. Key features included a HEPA air filter with front and back panels designed to deflect liquid away, along with a sealed top panel. This was a very exciting product for those seeking a robust computer case that could protect systems/servers in harsh conditions. Since 2013 we hadn’t heard much about the ‘Mammoth’ and by early 2015 it seemed to be a myth. In typical Silverstone fashion the case arrived without so much as a how do you do. One would assume such a massive and rather unique case was worthy of a PR announcement. The silent launch meant that we almost missed the Mammoth, in fact if I hadn’t been browsing a Silverstone web-site at the right time I might have missed the little ‘latest products’ headline that listed the MM01. In any case, the Silverstone Mammoth has arrived and better still we have one on the test bench. At this point the MM01 is yet to go on sale so we aren’t sure of the exact pricing, though it is suggested to cost around $300. |

This is based on the fortress. It's a bad ass looking case. |
