Recently I have spent a great deal of time playing with a range of new Home Theater PC cases and it is amazing how many of them feature complex and time consuming methods to install hardware. Being such a small and, well, crammed computer case, we were not expecting the Thermaltake SD100 Mini to be such a pleasure to work with. ![]() ![]() In fact, because there are so few components in a Mini-ITX system, the installation process was unexpectedly brief. Once the motherboard was positioned and the I/O shield was installed, it was simply a matter of fastening the four motherboard screws. ![]() The 3.5” hard drive bay must be removed for hard drive installation, and this is done by removing just two screws. Then another two screws are required to install the drive and it’s a job well done. The slim optical drive is even easier to install and connect up. Once the motherboard and drives are in place, it is just a matter of connecting all the cables, which should see the system up and running within 10-15 minutes. ![]() When installing the Gigabyte GC230D motherboard into the Thermaltake SD100 Mini there were no problems encountered. There are no compatibility issues with any of the hardware to speak of, as this case makes for a quick and easy installation that is also more importantly very tidy. ![]() Never underestimate the need for a tidy install, particularly in a compact case such as the SD100 Mini where air-flow paths are limited. There are very few obstacles within this case that could restrict or limit air-flow. Therefore we are confident that this case will keep any and all Mini-ITX systems nice and cool at all times. |
