DISCUSS REVIEW

As you can see, the new nForce 790i Ultra SLI chipset is only marginally faster than the nForce 780i SLI in Crysis when using a single GeForce 9600 GT graphics card. Both the DX9 and DX10 results saw less than a frame per second separating the two chipsets at the tested resolutions.

While there was really no difference in performance between these two chipsets when using a single GeForce 9600 GT graphics card, we have found quite a performance margin when using SLI technology. At 1440x900 the nForce 790i Ultra SLI chipset was 8% faster, while a 5% performance margin favoured the 790i at 1920x1200. While a gain of just a few frames per second may not seem all that significant, in a game such as Crysis these kind of performance gains can make quite a difference.

When running Crysis in the DX10 mode we saw a 13% performance margin favouring the nForce 790i Ultra SLI at 1440x900 over the nForce 780i SLI chipset. Again an increase of 5fps at this resolution is quite a significant increase.
