JEFF THE KILLER was first introduced to the internet in 2008. Though the lore around him has shifted and evolved over the years, the character is a 13-year-old serial killer who started a killing spree after his face was disfigured by bullies. ** LEPRECHAUN reboot: Leprechaun is back, with a new film penned by horror veterans Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan in the works at Lionsgate. Oren Koules and Miles Koules are set to produce the new entry, whose plot is being kept under wraps, through their Koulest Productions banner. This marks Oren Koules' second major horror franchise for Lionsgate, as he previously produced all 10 films in the SAW series, accounting for over a billion dollars in box office.

They become trapped in a basement overrun by giant man-eating alligators.
That first film became a critical and commercial success, pulling in $91 million worldwide from a $14 million budget. Alexandre Aja, who directed the first film, will return to direct the film which will begin shooting later this month in Hungary. ** DESPERATION: A new film adaptation of Stephen King's 1996 horror work DESPERATION has been set up at Searchlight with Sam Raimi set to produce reports The InSneider and THR. The project marks the first time horror icons King and Raimi will be working together on a project. Joining them will be Raimi's long-time producing partner Robert Tapert.
In addition, FINAL DESTINATION BLOODLINES directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein are set to direct the feature, which will be penned by Ryan Brennan. The pair are attached to multiple projects right now.
The original novel is set along the desolate Highway 50 in Nevada and follows several people who get abducted by Collie Entragian, the deputy of the fictional mining town of Desperation. Entragian has been possessed by an evil being named Tak who can control native wildlife and must change hosts to keep itself alive. Temple Hill is producing the follow-up, which takes the first film's Final Girl, Quinn Maybrook, to college where she will learn some of America's cruelest lessons. ** V/H/S/MIXTAPE: Shudder has announced that the ninth installment of the horror anthology franchise V/H/S/MIXTAPE is set to debut on the streamer on October 9th.

** BLOODY TENNIS: Nikias Chryssos' English-language horror film BLOODY TENNIS has secured several international deals, including to Shudder in the U.S., ahead of its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival. The other deals are for Australia (Umbrella Entertainment), Baltics (BestFilm.eu), Italy (Plaion Pictures), Japan (Extreme Film), Poland (9th Plan), and Scandinavia (Njutafilms).
U.S. rights were handled by CAA on behalf of Augenschein Sales, while Augenschein Sales sold the Australian rights directly. The Playmaker Munich closed the deals for Poland, the Baltics, Japan, Scandinavia and Italy on behalf of Augenschein Sales, and is handling the remaining open territories.

** A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake: With the Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery deal on pause, it seems both studios are set to become rivals over something unexpected – the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET franchise.
Earlier this month came the news that Paramount Pictures had closed a deal for a new take on the Wes Craven classic to be released via its new Paramount Primal genre label. The deal was made with Craven's estate for the U.S. rights to Craven's original screenplay for the 1984 first film, rights they reobtained under copyright law. However, previous rights holder New Line Cinema (owned by Warner Bros. Discovery) retains the international rights.
Now Warners is looking into making their own A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET film and is in talks with Lee Cronin to produce, write, and direct. Paramount expected that the deal would be closed in time that Warners would then have to release the Paramount version overseas. But with the deal now on hold for almost a year, Warners seems to be moving fast on this.
They're already one step ahead, locking down Cronin while Paramount has yet to set a filmmaker. Paramount does have an ace up their sleeve – Craven's widow Iya Labunka, and son Jonathan Craven are producing alongside Marc Toberoff and BARBARIAN duo J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules as executive producers.
Warners reportedly did approach the Craven estate about their project, but the studio wasn't going to agree on a "very aggressive back-end split with the rights holders". Warners, however, does have some advantages. Paramount's deal essentially confines that film to essentially a shot-by-shot remake, can only be released in the United States, and can't exploit any merchandise. Warners has no such restrictions. The story unfolds inside the decaying halls of the abandoned Wildberger Hospital. Caroline Walker searches for missing twin girls and is pulled into a nightmare of grotesque experiments, supernatural forces and terrifying secrets.
The work was originally released on Steam by developer Dual Effect and publisher PQube Games before expanding onto PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. ZQ will finance the development and co-finance the production, with Adrian Askarieh, Ara Keshishian, Majd Nassif, Petr Jakl, Gabriel Araneda Quijada and Germán Araneda Quijada all set to produce.
